About the Role:
Gap Personnel is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with a strong plumbing background to join our client on-site in Hortonwood, Telford. You will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and water systems while supporting safe and efficient site operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform planned and reactive maintenance, inspections, testing, and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and hot/cold water systems.
- Read, understand, and follow technical diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer instructions.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical and plumbing faults using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Repair, replace, and install building services equipment, fixtures, and mechanical components.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and general building maintenance tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of work, highlighting defects or follow-up requirements.
- Collaborate with specialist contractors as needed.
- Participate in stock control and management of tools, materials, and spare parts.
- Conduct TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) activities per schedule.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and follow 5S principles in your work area.
- Participate in out-of-hours/on-call rota to maintain essential site services.
- Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- City & Guilds 6035-03
- City & Guilds 6036-03
- Experience with commercial gas heating systems
- Strong mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills
- HVAC safety certificate
- Welding and fabrication skills (MG welding advantageous)
- Experience working on industrial doors
Knowledge & Experience:
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks (climbing, crawling, prolonged standing, manual handling)
- Skilled in safe use and maintenance of power tools
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and civil systems in building/industrial environments
- Understanding of engineering codes, standards, and regulations
- Competent with standard engineering instruments
