The predicted salary is between 13.25 - 13.25 Β£ per hour.

Location: Swindon SN25

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (start and finish time may vary) or less if part-time.

Rate of Pay: Negotiable but not less than Β£13.25 per hour.

Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent after 12 weeks.

Gap-personnel is currently recruiting for the role of Health and Safety Officer / Housing Standard Officer in the Swindon area. As part of the team, you will play a crucial role in supporting and resettling individuals, taking on a diverse range of tasks that help restore and rebuild lives.

Ideal candidate must drive their own car and have relevant experience and a people-oriented approach. The role is temp to perm; the first 12 weeks will be completed through an agency and will be counted as a probation period. You will play a key role in the support and resettlement of clients/residents, covering a wide variety of tasks that contribute to fixing broken lives. You will come into contact with people facing multiple and complex barriers including homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, offending behaviour, and unemployment. You will collate appropriate monitoring data to measure and report on the success of the service.

Essential:

  • Work as part of the Housing Standards team to ensure appropriate outputs.
  • Act in line with agreed procedures and processes.
  • Motivated to achieve performance targets.
  • High standard of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Discretion, trustworthiness, tact, and diplomacy to deal with highly sensitive matters.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and able to learn case management software.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Efficient, accurate, and good attention to detail.

Duties Include:

  • Conduct weekly and monthly health and safety checks in properties as directed and report all defects/repair issues promptly according to company policy.
  • Complete void checklists and job sheets when required, ensuring they are completed accurately and in a timely manner, minimising lost void days.
  • Report to your Line Manager any unauthorised items found in the property whilst completing property inspections or room voids.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with our maintenance contractors and all departments within the Company.
  • Carry out statutory fire risk assessments for office and all properties, ensuring that findings are actioned and recorded appropriately.
  • Efficiently manage your workload to ensure effective use of time and resources.
  • Ensure relevant databases are updated appropriately, required records are completed promptly and accurately, and all relevant paperwork is completed.
  • Work independently and as part of a team as necessary to perform the role properly and provide a quality service.
  • Ensure compliance with housing standards and health and safety regulations within and around the property.
  • Ensure all properties comply with relevant safety, regulatory, and legal standards, including proactive identification and resolution of compliance risks.
  • Review CCTV footage at various properties as directed.
  • Ensure the office complies with relevant safety, regulatory, and legal standards, including COSHH and proactive identification and resolution of compliance risks.
  • Where requested, provide cover for absences to the wider team.
  • Attend meetings and carry out duties outside of usual office hours (e.g., evenings and weekends) when necessary to deliver the service.
  • Complete meter readings and meet contractors as required.
  • Contribute towards accurate and timely reports, statistical data, and case studies as required.
  • Support property improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Deliver safety briefings or training to residents as and when required.
  • Report any complaints in the appropriate way, following company procedures.
  • Attend training and development as identified and be knowledgeable about housing matters and best practices.
  • Attend and contribute to regular team meetings and other meetings as directed.
  • Follow all policies and procedures to ensure effective service delivery, paying particular attention to: Health & Safety, Confidentiality, Data Protection, Professional Boundaries, and Customer Care.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post.
  • For operational reasons, we also reserve the right to transfer you to alternative duties. For this reason, it is a condition of employment that you are willing to do so, if requested.

Working days and hours:

Monday to Friday, start and finish time any hours between 7am and 5pm, completing 40 hours per week or less if you are looking for part-time role or fewer hours (e.g., 30 hours per week). One weekend day on call per month – usually Saturday but may also be Sunday on some occasions.
