This is a 3‑year course, Monday to Friday 08:00‑17:00 with no requirement for weekend working.

What will you do at work?

  • You’ll learn how to service and repair water & sewage pumps.
  • You’ll learn how to replace parts, identify faults and strip engines.
  • You’ll also study everything from basic engineering skills to the latest technological advancements in electro‑hydraulics and computerised control systems.

The Training Schedule

As an Apprentice you will be enrolled in a blended learning programme where you will gain an SVQ in Land‑based Engineering at SCQF Level 6 through a mixture of on‑the‑job experience and block release training through a leading college. The Apprenticeship will last 3 years, consisting of combined block release training at National Construction College and in‑house training. You will spend 9 weeks per year at National Construction College learning all the necessary skills you will need to succeed. Your time at college will be split into 3x 3‑week blocks and you will be required to attend college Monday‑Friday during the set block. All transportation, accommodation and food will be provided. When you are not at college, you will be on‑site gaining hands‑on experience and knowledge from our expert engineers.

Future Prospects

Once the Apprentice has completed their 3 years service and you are fully qualified, you can progress within the company to a Pump Engineer position. There are many avenues to take from here within the business including progressing to Regional Pump Engineer, Workshop Foreman and even Depot Manager one day.

Information about pay

Apprentices under 18 joining our programme will be required to work a maximum of 39 hours per week with a starting salary of £16,224 per annum. Apprentices over 18 joining our programme will be required to work a maximum of 42.5 hours per week with a starting salary of £17,860 per annum. After successful completion of Year 1, you will automatically be placed on the National Minimum Wage rate for your age group.
