If you've got mechanical aptitude, enjoy practical work, and are keen to develop your knowledge in a workshop environment, this could be a great opportunity to take the next step in your career.

Working primarily in the depot workshop, you'll support the servicing, maintenance, and safety checking of small plant and tools, ensuring equipment is well maintained, safe, and ready for hire. You'll work closely with experienced Fitters and the Workshop team, developing your skills through hands on experience and training. This is a practical, development focused role in a business that genuinely invests in its people.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Servicing and maintaining a range of small plant and tools to ensure they are safe and hire ready
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults across petrol, diesel, and electrically powered equipment
  • Carrying out PAT testing on electrical tools in line with company procedures
  • Completing safety checks and reporting any issues or defects to the Foreman
  • Updating service, repair, and testing records
  • Supporting Top 50 tool availability by maintaining high workshop standards
  • Assisting with workshop duties, including cleaning and organisation
  • Supporting driving duties during holidays or periods of absence, where required

About You: What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with a practical mindset and a willingness to learn, including:

  • Mechanical experience, aptitude, or qualifications relevant to small plant or tools
  • Basic fault finding knowledge or hands on repair experience
  • An understanding of safe working practices and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn PAT testing and equipment compliance standards (training can be provided)
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and follow procedures
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential

About Us: You'll be joining an industry leader that's growing and genuinely committed to your success. At GAP, we're proud to be the UK's leading equipment hire provider—supporting projects big and small across construction, infrastructure, events, and more. With nearly 200 locations nationwide and a wide range of specialist divisions, we offer exciting opportunities in everything from Plant and Tools to Lifting, Survey, Pumps, Power and Environmental, and Event Services.

As a family-run business with over 50 years of experience, we believe in doing things the right way. That means:

  • Remaining fully independent, which lets us make agile, long-term decisions that support your success
