Kent
Circa £75K + Excellent Benefits (Bonus, Shares, Pension, Travel Benefits/Schemes, Perks)
Role Type: Permanent; Monday M-F; Days Only
Tired of just applying standards... but never truly influencing them? What if you could shape how safety, compliance, and technical standards are defined across a major international engineering business?
Why this role might be worth a conversation:
If you’re currently frustrated by regulations that don’t match reality, or limited to applying standards rather than shaping them, this opportunity offers a chance to take proactive leadership within a complex safety critical environment that has a variety of innovation programmes and new regulatory landscapes to maneuver. Here, your decisions will directly influence safety, risk, and operations at scale for now and the future.
What you’ll get:
- Real influence: shape technical and safety decisions across a large organisation
- Senior exposure: direct engagement with senior business leadership (Director level & board) and external regulators
- Complex challenges: cross-border/international regulation, interoperability, safety systems
- Strategic visibility: working with a variety of regulatory authorities across the industry, acting as the main POC for UK regulation
- Opportunity to lead change and evolve standards
What you’ll be doing:
- Translate regulatory frameworks into operational standards
- Lead gap analysis between regulation and practice
- Define risk-based decisions and compliance strategies
- Act as a key interface with safety authorities
- Support governance boards and decision-making forums
Who this role suits:
- Technical Assurance / Authority professionals
- Engineering Governance / Standards leaders
- Safety & compliance specialists (rail, nuclear, infrastructure, aviation, defence)
The successful candidate will possess the following experience/attributes:
- Forward looking, system level thinker
- In depth knowledge of ISO standards – especially ISO 9001 and ISO 55001
- Ideally qualified within an engineering or systems management related discipline
- Experience interpreting and applying standards/regulations – knowledge of Rail, Nuclear or Aviation technical standards and regulation would be highly desirable.
- Experience beyond reporting & assessment, confident leading on risk-based decisions and advising on strategy and governance
- Experience of continual improvement within QMS and Asset Management frameworks
- Experience supporting or leading major operational decisions within safety critical environments based on professional risk assessment
- Excellent representative when dealing with external regulatory stakeholders and the business leadership internally
- Confident in Interpreting and Challenging
- Standards Development – truly designing and improving standards by gap analysis and efficient translation of external requirements and best practice into internal standards
Why this is different:
Most roles ask you to follow standards. This role gives you the platform to define them, challenge them, and gain regulatory recognition. We are looking for someone who interprets, challenges, and defines how standards are applied — and gets buy-in from regulators and leadership to make a real difference.
What is on offer:
- Join a business that invests in its people, with a strong “family” culture, bonus, perks including:
- 32 days holiday as standard (including bank holidays with the option to increase)
- Private Medical Insurance
- Competitive base pay + performance related bonus + share options
- Various Travel benefits
- Staff Perks schemes including heavily discounted leisure partnerships – up to 50% off gym membership, theatre tickets, theme parks & more!
- Staff Perks Product Discounts – Product discounts up to 30% on a variety of items with partner companies on special staff only perks days
- Excellent employee retention and development
- Staff celebration days, recognition & rewards
- Excellent pension – matched up to 11% contribution
