What if your next role gave you the opportunity to take technical ownership of major railway telecommunications projects, working at CRE level across some of the UK's most complex rail infrastructure programmes?

I'm working with a leading rail infrastructure business looking for an experienced Telecommunications Design CRE to provide technical leadership and assurance across Network Rail enhancement, renewal and multidisciplinary projects.

This is a senior technical role with a particular focus on Operational Communications , where you'll be responsible for ensuring telecoms designs are safe, compliant, constructible and delivered to the required Network Rail standards.

The Role:

β€’ Act as the Design Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) for telecommunications

β€’ Provide technical leadership and engineering assurance throughout project delivery

β€’ Lead the delivery of Operational Communications systems across enhancement and renewal projects

β€’ Provide specialist expertise across SPT, GSM-R, FTN/FTNx, CUCM/Concentrator systems, operational telephony and station communications

β€’ Manage technical interfaces between telecoms, signalling, E&P, civils, track and station systems

β€’ Review and assure telecoms design deliverables for compliance, constructability and operational requirements

β€’ Participate in IDC/IDRs, design reviews, HAZIDs, constructability and value engineering workshops

β€’ Support testing, commissioning, integration and handback activities

β€’ Identify, manage and mitigate engineering risks throughout project delivery

β€’ Ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, Railway Group Standards, CDM and relevant legislation

β€’ Liaise with Network Rail engineers, asset teams, project managers, designers and contractors

β€’ Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers

β€’ Support the management of specialist subcontractors and suppliers

β€’ Ensure engineering records, handback documentation and asset information are completed accurately

What You'll Need:

β€’ Significant experience delivering railway telecommunications projects within the UK rail industry

β€’ Demonstrable experience working as a CRE or Senior Telecommunications Engineer on Network Rail projects

β€’ Extensive knowledge of Operational Communications systems and railway telecoms infrastructure

β€’ Strong experience across FTN, FTNx, GSM-R, IP networking and transmission systems

β€’ Experience working on resignalling, enhancement or renewal projects

β€’ Proven experience delivering projects through the PACE lifecycle

β€’ Strong understanding of testing, commissioning, integration and handback

β€’ Experience managing engineering interfaces within complex multidisciplinary rail environments

β€’ Good knowledge of Network Rail standards and telecoms specifications

β€’ Understanding of railway construction methodologies and possession planning

β€’ Strong understanding of CDM and railway safety requirements

β€’ Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline

β€’ IEng/CEng or working towards professional registration

β€’ PTS certification or ability to obtain

β€’ Full UK driving licence

⭐ Desirable Experience:

β€’ Network Rail-approved CRE competence

β€’ IRSE licence or membership

β€’ IET, IRSE or equivalent professional membership

β€’ Experience with ETCS, digital railway or communications migration projects

β€’ Station communications and customer information systems

β€’ Knowledge of cyber security principles within operational telecommunications
