A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced SSOW Planner / Safe System of Work Planner to join a rail contractor based in Edinburgh on a 6-month contract. This role is critical to the safe and efficient delivery of planned works across the rail infrastructure.

You will take ownership of producing compliant Safe System of Work (SSOW) packs, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring all activities are undertaken in line with industry legislation, standards, and best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce accurate and comprehensive SSOW packs to safeguard personnel working on or near the railway.
  • Carry out detailed risk assessments, identifying hazards and implementing suitable control measures.
  • Liaise closely with project managers, engineers, delivery teams, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless planning and integration.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant rail safety regulations, standards, and company procedures.
  • Provide clear safety briefings and verify team understanding of SSOW requirements.
  • Update and adjust SSOW plans to reflect evolving site conditions, programme changes, or regulatory updates.
  • Support safety audits, contribute to incident investigations, and promote a proactive safety culture.
Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven experience producing SSOW packs within the rail sector.
  • Valid SSOWP competency (Sentinel).
  • Current PTS certification.
  • Ability to start at short notice (ideally within one week).
  • Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
