Our client is a leading provider of mechanical engineering services in the area, supplying, designing and installing Bespoke Materials Handling Equipment and Special Purpose Machinery. Established in the area, they have built a strong reputation for delivering quality service to their clients nationwide in the FMCG and Logistics industries. Their team designs and assembles a variety of products, including conveyor systems, robots, structural steel work, Crane Systems, and more. They pride themselves in providing a high standard of craftsmanship and innovation, working with multi‑billion‑pound businesses across the UK.
The Role:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Spares Manager to lead the spares and inventory function of the business. This senior role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the department, working closely with other teams such as Procurement, Design, Project Management and Service teams to ensure parts and materials are always available for ongoing projects and maintenance work. You will also be responsible for direct reports, with potential to grow the team further as the role progresses.
Your Responsibilities will include:
- Managing spare parts inventory and maintaining optimal stock levels
- Overseeing supplier selection and negotiating best rates on frequently ordered components
- Forecasting stock requirements for upcoming projects and emergency orders
- Liaising with Design engineers and attending project meetings to advise on inventory needs
- Implementing cost‑saving initiatives proactively
- Ensuring compliance with documentation and reporting requirements
- Participating in project review and forecasting meetings from an inventory perspective
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience in a Spares or Inventory Management role, sufficient to operate at a senior level, or looking to step up into a senior role
- Strong understanding of ERP systems
- Comfortable negotiating with suppliers and managing supplier relationships
- Mechanical machinery or industrial components background preferred
- Good organisational skills and the ability to take responsibility for a department
