As the Rolling Stock Systems Assurance Lead - ERTMS Programme, you won’t just be supporting - you’ll be trusted to lead. Whether you’ve worked under supervision in assurance or have solid ETCS or systems knowledge from rolling stock projects, we’ll support your development into an independent system assurance expert. You’ll be hands-on with real-world challenges, from hazard management to regulatory engagement, and help deliver a train control system that includes cab-signalling, automatic train protection, GSM-R, and updated operating rules.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the development of assurance plans for rolling stock systems
- Support APIS and PIU approvals, safety cases, hazard records, and risk assessments
- Collaborate with ORR, Network Rail, and other stakeholders on ETCS and train control compliance
- Participate in HazIDs, workshops, and assurance meetings
- Help shape the assurance framework across technical, safety, and regulatory domains
- Promote a culture of safety and quality across the programme
What You’ll Bring
- A rolling stock engineer with strong technical foundations and a desire to specialise in systems assurance
- Someone with existing experience in ETCS, train control, or systems integration, looking to take on more responsibility
- An engineer who’s worked under supervision in assurance and is now ready to lead
- Bonus (but not essential): Experience in major rail programmes (E.g. Digital Railway, Crossrail, HS2)
- Familiarity with Network Rail’s ESAC and 4-SP frameworks
- Degree Qualified, Professional Registered or Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working toward it
