We have an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our expanding team in Scotland, supporting major infrastructure and energy projects across the region and wider UK.
The Role
You will play a key role in delivering technically robust and commercially sound geotechnical solutions within a civils-led environment. Working closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams, you will support projects from feasibility and ground investigation through to construction. This is a varied position combining office-based technical delivery with site-based supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing high-quality, technically competent geotechnical reports.
- Undertaking and managing geotechnical desk studies.
- Designing, procuring and supervising Ground Investigations (GIs).
- Reviewing and checking Ground Investigation Reports and specialist outputs.
- Supervising site-based ground investigation and construction activities.
- Managing all aspects of on-site engineering oversight, including quality control and compliance.
- Producing and maintaining site documentation, including ITPs and quality checklists.
- Writing and preparing technical and site paperwork such as method statements, risk assessments and permit documentation (where required).
- Attending pre-start and contract meetings.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, specialists and statutory bodies.
- Managing sub-contractors in relation to programme, compliance and technical standards.
- Supporting bidding and profile-raising activities across Scotland and the wider UK.
- Assisting with team resource planning, mentoring and developing junior staff.
- Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous project and commercial records.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong technical expertise in geotechnical engineering with a solid understanding of core principles.
- Demonstrable experience delivering geotechnical projects and preparing reports to a high technical standard.
- Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK National Annex requirements.
- Experience with ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications.
- Ability to critically review drawings, reports and calculations produced by others.
- Familiarity with a range of geotechnical analysis software.
- Good commercial awareness and the ability to build effective client and contractor relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in site-based engineering, setting out and quality assurance processes (desirable).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of AutoCAD beneficial.
Essentials
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline (HNC/HND considered with relevant experience).
- Valid CSCS card.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel to sites across Scotland and, where required, the wider UK.
- SMSTS, First Aid, CAT & Genny or Temporary Works Supervisor certification are advantageous but not essential (training can be provided).
