The UK site, where this role is based, is home to a multidisciplinary engineering team including Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Systems Engineers. The Role:
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of advanced load testing systems capable of handling electrical loads of up to 20kW to 7000kW. You will be working collaboratively across teams to deliver detailed electrical designs from concept through to final customer sign-off, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. This is a technically varied and hands-on role ideal for someone with experience in machinery, panels, or high-power electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate customer specifications into electrical definitions and technical documentation.
- Design and produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks Electrical.
- Select and specify components including contactors, switches, PLCs (e.g., Siemens LOGO), and safety circuits.
- Perform engineering calculations including short-circuit, voltage drop, earth withstand, and power loss assessments.
- Collaborate with mechanical and systems teams for full product integration.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical drawings.
- Support customer-witnessed testing and ensure design meets industry regulations such as the Machinery Directive, BS, and ISO standards.
- Engage with vendors and suppliers to support prototyping and component sourcing.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Proficient with AutoCAD 2D; experience with SolidWorks Electrical is a bonus.
- Background in machinery, control panels, site infrastructure, or power systems.
- Understanding of both low- and high-voltage electrical design.
- Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering preferred, but not essential.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a relevant design environment.
- Strong communication skills, team-oriented, and customer-focused.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and understanding of BOM structures.
