Are you a hands-on Project Engineer looking for a role that gives you real ownership, variety and technical challenge? This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering environment where you will be involved in full project delivery, from control panel build and PLC programming through to installation, commissioning and handover.

This role is with an established engineering business based in Sheffield that supports a range of industrial and manufacturing customers. The work is varied, technically involved and project-led, covering electrical control systems, machine build, pipework, mechanical installation and site commissioning.

You will play a key role in delivering live engineering projects, taking ownership of work from the workshop stage through to customer site activity. This will include interpreting drawings, building and wiring panels, programming PLCs, supporting mechanical installation, fault-finding, commissioning equipment and producing the required project documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, wire, terminate, test and fault-find electrical control panels.
  • Programme and support PLC systems across Siemens, Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi platforms.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support mechanical installation, machine build, pipework and site-based project activity.
  • Take ownership of project delivery, including timelines, suppliers, costs and technical queries.
  • Carry out installation and commissioning work on customer sites across the UK, with occasional working away.
  • Produce and update documentation including as-built drawings, test records, certificates and O&M manuals.
  • Provide aftercare support, fault-finding and breakdown assistance following installation.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong control panel building and PLC programming experience.
  • Experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley and/or Mitsubishi PLC platforms.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and work confidently from technical schematics.
  • Electrical HNC as a minimum, with IPAF desirable.
  • Exposure to machine building, pipework, coolant systems or industrial equipment would be beneficial.
  • Mechanical installation or fault-finding experience would be advantageous.
  • Experience taking ownership of projects, including customer liaison and supplier coordination.
  • Full UK driving licence, due to site commissioning and travel requirements.
