Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with strong fundamentals in mechanics, stress analysis and detailed design? Do you enjoy taking ownership of sub-assemblies, progressing designs from concept through to final detailing, and delivering practical engineering solutions within a fast-moving project environment?
My client is a global engineering manufacturer supplying specialist process-equipment solutions to customers across industrial sectors. Their systems operate in demanding environments where reliability, safety and mechanical integrity are essential.
This is a hands-on mechanical design contract, joining at a stage where the main system design is already at a mature level, and the project is now entering finalisation, detailing and sub-assembly completion. You’ll work closely with a small, focused engineering team, taking ownership of key mechanical sub-assemblies and progressing them through to finished design.
Your responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for progressing the mechanical design of multiple sub-assemblies, producing detailed drawings, performing quick engineering calculations and ensuring all bolt-on assemblies integrate correctly with the main machine.
- Progress mechanical sub-assemblies through to completion.
- Produce detailed mechanical drawings and supporting documentation.
- Standardise bolt-on assemblies to ensure correct fit and interface.
- Carry out hand calculations and basic stress assessments.
- Interpret existing designs quickly using strong visual and technical understanding.
- Attend design reviews and technical meetings.
- Work closely with the wider engineering team to resolve issues and progress the design.
- Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and mechanically robust.
You should be able to:
- Get up to speed quickly with an existing design.
- Work independently and make sound engineering decisions.
- Confidently answer technical questions and justify design choices.
- Interpret drawings and technical information with minimal guidance.
- Progress detailed design work efficiently within agreed timescales.
- Understand aluminium, conveyor systems, foundry or similar environments.
Why Apply?
This is a chance to take ownership of meaningful mechanical design work within a high-integrity engineering environment, contributing directly to sustainability and advanced industrial technology. You’ll join a close-knit engineering team, working directly with senior technical leadership, with clear deliverables and the autonomy to drive your own sub-assemblies to completion.
