Contract Type: Freelance Contract

Rate: Up to £550 per day (INSIDE IR35)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2–3 days per week on site/in the office

We are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of reservoir upgrade projects across Somerset. This opportunity sits with a well-established contractor operating on the South West Environment Agency Framework, delivering a portfolio of reservoir improvement and upgrade schemes in and around the Taunton area. Operating as a managing contractor, the business works closely with its supply chain to deliver complex infrastructure projects safely and efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative commercial team on a contract basis, supporting the successful delivery of key environmental and water infrastructure projects.

As a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide day-to-day commercial support across several live reservoir schemes. The role will primarily focus on subcontractor management, administration of NEC contracts, management of Compensation Events, and ensuring robust commercial control throughout project delivery. Working closely with operational teams, planners, project managers, and the supply chain, you will play a key role in maintaining commercial performance and ensuring contractual obligations are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day commercial management of multiple reservoir upgrade projects
  • Preparation of cost reports, forecasting, and ongoing cost control
  • Monthly CVRs and reporting as required
  • Supporting applications for payment and final account agreement
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
  • Providing general QS support to the wider project delivery teams
  • Administration of NEC contracts
  • Management of Compensation Events from notification through to agreement
  • Day-to-day management of subcontractors and subcontract accounts
  • Assessment and agreement of subcontractor applications and payments
  • Change management and maintenance of accurate contract records
  • Ensuring contractual compliance throughout the supply chain
  • Working closely with project managers and site teams to support delivery objectives
  • Acting as a key commercial contact for subcontractors and internal stakeholders
  • Building and maintaining strong supply chain relationships
  • Supporting collaborative working across commercial and operational functions

Key Requirements

  • Experience operating as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, utilities, or infrastructure environments
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Proven experience managing subcontractors and subcontract accounts
  • Experience administering and negotiating Compensation Events
  • Strong commercial awareness and reporting capability
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple workstreams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
