Company Overview

We are recruiting for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure alliance delivering one of the UK’s largest water capital investment programmes. Working within a collaborative partnership comprising leading contractors, consultants, and Anglian Water, this role offers the opportunity to support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects. Schemes range from planned framework projects to bespoke capital works and reactive/emergency programmes, with project values typically ranging from £200k to £10m+.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial professional looking to take ownership of project performance while working within a highly collaborative and progressive delivery environment.

The Role

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for leading the commercial management of multiple infrastructure projects across the programme. You will play a key role in supporting project delivery teams and senior management, ensuring robust commercial controls are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires strong commercial leadership, contract management expertise, and the ability to drive value while mitigating commercial risk. Working closely with clients, supply chain partners, and operational teams, you will ensure projects are commercially successful while maintaining high standards of governance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management
    • Preparation of accurate cost and value reporting at project and business unit level
    • Production and management of monthly CVRs, forecasts, and commercial plans
    • Cash flow forecasting and reporting
    • Cost management and financial performance monitoring
    • Preparation of applications for payment through to final account settlement
    • Identification, management, and realisation of commercial opportunities
    • Management of commercial risks and mitigation strategies
    • Supporting operational teams in driving cost efficiencies and value improvement
  • Contracts & Procurement
    • Administration and management of NEC and IChemE contracts
    • Procurement, negotiation, and management of subcontract packages
    • Post-contract management of subcontractors and supply chain partners
    • Management of contractual change, compensation events, and claims
    • Ensuring contractual compliance and governance requirements are met
    • Building and maintaining effective supply chain relationships
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Acting as the key commercial interface with clients and stakeholders
    • Liaising with project teams, client representatives, and subcontractors
    • Supporting project delivery teams with commercial advice and guidance
    • Working collaboratively across the wider alliance to drive project success
  • Processes & Controls
    • Ensuring compliance with internal commercial processes and reporting deadlines
    • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across commercial functions
    • Promoting best practice in commercial management and project controls

Key Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience within the construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure sectors
  • Strong commercial management experience at Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor level
  • Working knowledge of NEC and/or IChemE contracts
  • Understanding of Construction Law and contract administration
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement and commercial performance
  • Strong forecasting, cost reporting, and CVR experience
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Desirable

  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying
  • Membership of RICS or another relevant professional body (or working towards)
  • CSCS Card
  • Experience working within water or utilities frameworks
  • Experience working for a self-delivery or direct delivery contractor
  • Knowledge of estimating and tendering processes
