Commissioning Engineer – Automotive - Schneider PLC - Dagenham - Contract
We are currently recruiting an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support a major automotive manufacturing and automation project in Dagenham .
This is a hands-on opportunity for an engineer with strong Schneider PLC experience , combining PLC software modifications, commissioning, fault-finding and live production-line support.
Role Details
Position: Commissioning Engineer – Schneider PLC
Location: Dagenham, Essex
Rate: £40–£50 per hour – Outside IR35
Contract: Contractor
Hours: Monday–Friday, 07:30–16:00
Weekend Support: Approximately 2 weekends per month
The Role
You will be working directly on automated manufacturing equipment, supporting commissioning activities and implementing PLC software changes within a live production environment.
The role will involve:
- Developing and modifying Schneider PLC software
- Commissioning automated production equipment
- Fault-finding and troubleshooting on live production lines
- Testing and validating software modifications
- Supporting production and commissioning activities
- Preparing software updates for planned maintenance windows
- Working closely with site and engineering teams to resolve issues and ensure equipment is operating correctly
Key Skills Required
We are looking for engineers with:
- Strong experience with Schneider Electric PLCs
- Proven experience with PL7
- Experience with Unity Pro / EcoStruxure Control Expert
- Ability to make PLC software modifications and basic developments
- Strong commissioning and fault-finding experience
- Confidence working directly on automated production lines
- Experience within automotive or advanced manufacturing environments is highly desirable
Weekend Requirement
The project requires on-site support for approximately two weekends per month , ideally on consecutive weekends.
Weekend work will primarily involve implementing, testing and commissioning software changes during planned maintenance and production shutdown periods.
About You
We're looking for a practical, hands-on Commissioning Engineer who can combine solid PLC programming knowledge with strong on-site commissioning and troubleshooting skills.
You should be confident working with both legacy and modern Schneider PLC platforms , including PL7, Unity Pro and Control Expert , and be comfortable diagnosing and resolving automation issues in a live manufacturing environment.
