Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Planner to support the coordination and delivery of mechanical and electrical engineering projects at a large food manufacturing site in Kettering. The role will focus on planning and prioritising a varied portfolio of live CAPEX projects, including machinery installations, pipework, electrical panels, power supply upgrades and wider plant infrastructure improvements.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineering planner who understands how mechanical and electrical works are delivered in a live manufacturing environment. They will be confident coordinating multiple stakeholders, balancing competing resource demands and developing realistic schedules around shutdowns and operational requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed schedules for multiple mechanical and electrical engineering projects.
  • Use Gantt charts and planning software to sequence activities, allocate resources and track project progress.
  • Coordinate labour, contractors and specialist resources across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Plan and prioritise work around production requirements and scheduled plant shutdowns.
  • Attend regular planning meetings, typically twice per week, to review upcoming works, contractor commitments and resource conflicts.
  • Coordinate stakeholders to avoid clashes over equipment, access, labour and other site resources.
  • Improve forward planning and reduce reactive, short-notice scheduling.
  • Monitor project progress, identify delays and resource constraints, and support recovery planning.
  • Maintain accurate planning databases covering project timelines, labour requirements, resources and dependencies.
  • Support CAPEX projects involving machinery installations, pipework, steam systems, electrical panels, distribution boards, power supplies and safety circuits.
  • Work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure schedules reflect operational constraints and available resources.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience as an Engineering Planner, Project Planner or in a similar engineering planning role.
  • Mechanical or electrical engineering experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience coordinating multiple live projects, contractors and resources.
  • Understanding of project sequencing, dependencies, scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Experience using Gantt charts or project scheduling software.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change.

Desirable Experience

  • Food manufacturing, FMCG or similar industrial production experience.
  • Experience planning engineering works around plant shutdowns.
  • Exposure to CAPEX projects, machinery installations, pipework and electrical infrastructure upgrades.
  • Experience using Ganttic or similar project planning and resource scheduling software.
