We are seeking a Preconstruction Project Engineer to support the development and mobilisation of water and wastewater infrastructure projects within a large capital delivery programme.
This role sits within the pre-construction and engineering team and focuses on ensuring projects are technically coordinated and properly planned before construction begins. The successful candidate will contribute to the early stages of project development by supporting the preparation of target costs, risk registers and delivery strategies, ensuring projects are set up for successful execution once they progress to site.
Responsibilities
- Working closely with design partners, procurement teams and operational delivery teams, reviewing engineering deliverables to ensure they comply with contractual, regulatory and technical requirements.
- Coordinating the development of design solutions and supporting the preparation of robust delivery plans that consider buildability, programme requirements and site constraints.
- Support procurement activities by reviewing technical specifications, responding to technical queries and assisting with the technical review of subcontract tender submissions.
- Coordinate surveys, testing and site investigations required to support design development and inform project planning.
- Assist with preparing and reviewing documentation required for governance and client approvals, ensuring designs progress efficiently through review processes.
- Act as part of the technical interface with the client, manage technical queries and waivers while ensuring design outputs remain aligned with project requirements.
- Support the transition from pre-construction into operational delivery by coordinating design information, contributing to programme updates and assisting with the management of smaller work packages ahead of site mobilisation.
- Maintain close liaison with operational teams to ensure a seamless handover and well-developed delivery strategy.
Qualifications
- Strong MEICA engineering background with proven experience working on water or wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Good understanding of design and pre-construction phases of project delivery within the water sector.
- HND or HNC in a MEICA-related engineering discipline (degree preferred).
- At least five years’ experience working on infrastructure or utilities projects.
- Strong communication skills, good commercial awareness and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- SMSTS and a valid CSCS card are desirable.
