The Opportunity
We are recruiting experienced PLC Controls & Commissioning Engineers to support a major automotive manufacturing and industrial automation project in Dagenham.
These are hands‑on commissioning positions within a live automotive manufacturing environment, requiring engineers who can hit the ground running, modify PLC software, troubleshoot complex faults and support the commissioning of automated production equipment.
We have opportunities for engineers with either Schneider Electric PLC experience or Siemens Classic S7 experience.
Key Responsibilities
-
Modify existing PLC software and undertake basic programming and development.
-
Commission automated production lines, stations and manufacturing equipment.
-
Download, test and validate PLC software modifications.
-
Diagnose and resolve PLC, controls, I/O, sequencing and runtime faults.
-
Troubleshoot electrical, software and hardware issues during commissioning.
-
Support live production lines and planned maintenance activities.
-
Clear snags, maintain fault logs and optimise station operation and cycle times.
-
Work closely with electrical, mechanical, controls and site engineering teams.
-
Support safe commissioning, production readiness and equipment handover.
-
Work to relevant automotive OEM commissioning and software standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
We are interested in candidates with experience in either of the following PLC platforms.
Option 1: Schneider Electric PLC Engineer
-
Strong experience with Schneider Electric PLCs.
-
Proven experience using Schneider PL7.
-
Experience with Unity Pro / EcoStruxure Control Expert.
-
Ability to modify existing PLC software and undertake basic development.
-
Strong commissioning, troubleshooting and fault‑finding skills.
Option 2: Siemens PLC Controls Engineer
-
Strong experience with Siemens Classic S7.
-
Proven experience using STEP 7 v5.x and SIMATIC Manager.
-
Extensive live-plant automotive commissioning experience.
-
Ability to modify existing PLC programs and develop new code.
-
Strong knowledge of PLC fault‑finding, I/O, sequences and automated processes.
Please note: The Siemens requirement is primarily focused on Classic STEP 7 / SIMATIC Manager rather than TIA Portal.
Automotive OEM Experience
Experience working on major automotive manufacturing and automation projects is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Ford FAST standards is a significant advantage, particularly for the Siemens commissioning positions.
Candidates without direct Ford FAST experience may still be considered if they have extensive automotive commissioning experience with major OEMs such as Jaguar Land Rover or BMW, working to comparable controls and software standards.
Experience with Profibus, Profinet and basic HMI integration is also beneficial.
