Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 07:30–16:00

Rate: £40 - £50 (Outside IR35)

Weekend Support: Approximately two weekends per month

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support an automated manufacturing project in Dagenham. This is a hands-on role combining basic PLC software development, commissioning, fault finding and production-line support. The successful contractor will work with Schneider Electric PLC systems, making software modifications and supporting the implementation and testing of changes on an operational production line.

Key Skills Required

  • Strong experience with Schneider Electric PLCs
  • Proven experience with PL7
  • Experience with Unity Pro / EcoStruxure Control Expert
  • Ability to make basic PLC software modifications and developments
  • Strong commissioning and fault-finding experience
  • Comfortable working directly on automated production lines
  • Experience within automotive or advanced manufacturing environments is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Developing and modifying PLC software
  • Carrying out commissioning activities on automated production equipment
  • Walking the production line to identify and resolve faults
  • Testing and validating software changes
  • Preparing software updates for planned weekend maintenance windows
  • Supporting commissioning and production activities as required
  • Working closely with site and engineering teams to ensure equipment is operating correctly

Weekend Requirement

The project requires on-site support for approximately two weekends per month, ideally on consecutive weekends. Weekend work will primarily involve implementing, testing and commissioning software changes during planned maintenance and production shutdown periods.

About You

We are looking for a practical, hands-on Commissioning Engineer who can combine PLC programming knowledge with strong on-site commissioning skills. You should be confident working with both legacy and modern Schneider PLC platforms, including PL7 and Unity Pro/Control Expert, and be comfortable troubleshooting automation systems in a live manufacturing environment.
