If you're a PLC Engineer, Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, EICA Engineer or Control Systems Engineer with strong water industry experience, this could be an excellent opportunity to get involved in a technically interesting project in Leicester.

We're looking for an experienced controls professional who can bring hands‑on technical knowledge across PLC/SCADA, control systems, instrumentation and electrical engineering, supporting the delivery of a major water industry project.

With a rate of £45-£55 per hour Outside IR35 and an initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension, this is well suited to an experienced contractor coming towards the end of a project or looking for their next challenge.

The role

You'll be working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering and project team, providing technical input across the control, automation, instrumentation and electrical elements of the project.

Your responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Supporting the design and delivery of PLC and control system solutions.
  • Providing technical input into automation, controls and EICA engineering activities.
  • Reviewing and developing control philosophies, functional specifications and technical documentation.
  • Working with PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation and associated control equipment.
  • Reviewing electrical, instrumentation and control drawings and identifying interfaces or potential issues.
  • Supporting PLC software development, modification and testing where required.
  • Working with engineers, contractors, suppliers and site teams to resolve technical and integration issues.
  • Supporting FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning and site activities.
  • Ensuring control and instrumentation requirements are properly coordinated throughout project delivery.
  • Troubleshooting control, automation and instrumentation issues and providing practical engineering solutions.
  • Supporting project delivery from design through to installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Ensuring engineering activities meet the required water industry, quality, safety and technical standards.
  • Working closely with other disciplines including electrical, mechanical, process and project engineering.

You'll ideally have:

  • Water industry experience - essential
  • Strong experience with PLC / control systems / automation
  • Experience with PLC software and control system engineering
  • Knowledge of SCADA, HMI and industrial control systems
  • Understanding of instrumentation and electrical systems
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation
  • Experience supporting FAT, SAT, testing and commissioning
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • A practical approach to engineering and project delivery
