An established contractor operating within the water and utilities sector is looking for a hands-on Health & Safety Manager to support its operations across South London. This is an opportunity to use your expertise where it matters most: on the ground, working with project teams and helping ensure that safety remains central to every stage of delivery.

What's in it for you?

  • A competitive contract rate: An opportunity to secure a market-aligned day rate reflecting your skills and sector experience.
  • Meaningful infrastructure work: Play a key role in projects that support essential water and utilities services.
  • A hands-on position: Work directly with operational teams, influence safe working practices and see the impact of your contribution.
  • Greater ownership: Use your professional judgement to identify risks, improve standards and promote a positive safety culture.

The role

You’ll work closely with site teams, operational management and subcontractors to maintain high standards of health and safety across water infrastructure activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out site inspections, audits and compliance checks.
  • Reviewing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Advising project teams on health and safety legislation, safe systems of work and industry best practice.
  • Supporting incident investigations and communicating lessons learned.
  • Monitoring site activities and helping identify, manage and reduce risks.
  • Delivering toolbox talks and engaging with teams to improve safety awareness.
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and operational colleagues.
  • Promoting a proactive safety culture through visible site presence and practical advice.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a confident, approachable Health & Safety professional who can influence people at all levels and balance regulatory compliance with the realities of site delivery. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Experience in a Health & Safety Manager or similar role within water, utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • A recognised health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH or an equivalent.
  • A sound understanding of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
  • Experience conducting audits, reviewing RAMS and supporting site teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to challenge unsafe practices constructively.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to managing risk.

Direct water industry experience would be particularly valuable.
