Who are we looking for? We're looking for a Technical Team Lead / Senior Software Engineering Lead to motivate, coach, and mentor a small engineering team delivering projects aligned with our Group Products roadmap. In this role, you'll combine hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, ensuring solutions are well designed, secure, scalable, and maintainable. You'll work closely with product, engineering, and wider stakeholders to turn ideas into high-quality software delivered through modern agile practices.
What will you be doing day-to-day?
- Lead, motivate, and support a small team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with product teams to scope, plan, and estimate work, ensuring solutions are aligned with business goals and technical strategy.
- Design and implement technical systems and software solutions, considering capacity, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Deliver new features and enhancements while maintaining and improving existing systems.
- Solve complex technical problems, diagnosing issues across systems and driving effective solutions.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies and ensure delivery aligns with agreed ways of working.
- Providing training and mentorship to team members on methodologies such as Test Driven Development (TDD).
- Manage work using Jira, in line with Group standards and best practices.
- Carry out and support code reviews, promoting high-quality, maintainable code.
- Champion automated testing and CI/CD best practices across the team.
- Support product discovery and technical scoping activities, contributing to solution design and feasibility discussions.
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates, identifying risks and dependencies early.
- Identify technical debt and optimisation opportunities, clearly communicating these to stakeholders.
What you'll need:
- Technical & delivery experience.
- Strong experience delivering software solutions across front-end and back-end systems.
- Hands-on experience with Node.js / TypeScript.
- Experience with React.
- Strong understanding of API design and integration best practices.
- Experience with automated testing, including unit and integration testing.
- Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Cloud experience, ideally AWS.
- Experience with TDD is highly desirable.
- Experience with Kubernetes (beneficial, not essential).
Leadership & collaboration:
- Proven experience leading or mentoring engineers, supporting their technical and professional development.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to trace and resolve complex issues.
- Confident decision-making, including prioritisation of work for yourself and the wider team.
- Ability to facilitate technical discussions and guide teams toward well-reasoned decisions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical solutions clearly to varied audiences.
