The Materials Controller is responsible for the receipt, inspection, storage, control, and dispatch of aviation parts, supplies, and equipment in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. The role ensures full traceability, regulatory compliance, and efficient support to operational and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Materials Receipt & Inspection: Receive, inspect, and verify incoming aviation parts, supplies, and equipment against purchase orders, certifications, release documentation, and company procedures. Check quantity, condition, damage, and airworthiness status. Ensure compliance with acceptance and traceability requirements.
  • Storage & Inventory Control: Store materials in designated, secure, and environmentally controlled areas. Maintain segregation of serviceable and unserviceable parts to prevent contamination or mixing. Maintain accurate and up-to-date stock records in inventory systems (e.g. AMOS, QUANTUM). Record locations, quantities, batch/serial numbers, expiry dates, and traceability. Conduct regular cycle counts, stock audits, and full physical inventories. Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Dispatch & Logistics: Pick, pack, and dispatch parts in accordance with sales orders, repair orders, and exchange requests. Verify quantities, product details, and supporting documentation. Arrange shipments in compliance with customer instructions, UK shipping regulations, customs requirements, dangerous goods regulations, and CAA/EASA Part 145 standards.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements, including traceability and quarantine procedures. Comply with export control regulations and shipping regulations (including IATA/DG). Handle hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations, including correct labelling, storage, and documentation. Maintain records in line with aviation and regulatory standards.
  • Operational Support: Process purchase requests, purchase orders, sales orders, exchange orders, and repair orders in accordance with company procedures. Manage AOG (Aircraft on Ground) situations promptly and effectively to minimise downtime. Coordinate with shipping agents, suppliers, and internal teams. Support customers by locating and dispatching parts efficiently. Operate material handling equipment (e.g. forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and responsibly. Maintain tools and equipment in serviceable condition.
  • Housekeeping & Continuous Improvement: Maintain a clean, organised, and safe storeroom environment. Work in accordance with company health, safety, and aviation standards. Operate in line with Gamit Limited’s ISO9001 and ISO27001 management systems. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Assist colleagues and provide cover as required.

Authority: Authority to receive, inspect, accept, quarantine, or reject materials in accordance with company procedures. Authority to arrange shipments in line with approved processes and regulations. Authority to escalate regulatory, safety, or documentation concerns to management. Authority to prioritise AOG and urgent operational requirements.

Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in an aviation logistics or quality inspection environment.
  • Strong understanding of aviation component documentation and acceptance standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of shipping requirements, including Dangerous Goods.
  • Strong operational awareness and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and under pressure.

Desirable

  • Experience within a Part 145 maintenance organisation.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems such as AMOS or QUANTUM.
  • Awareness of ISO9001 and ISO27001 management systems.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade C (or equivalent) or above.
  • Aerospace-related qualifications (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with different currencies and conversions.
  • Clean driving licence and a valid passport.
