Who are Mythwright? We are a new games publisher, currently in stealth mode, established by industry veterans who have previously built successful publishers from the ground up. At present, we are focused primarily on Steam and are aiming to build a portfolio of games in niche markets with committed fan-bases.

Responsibilities

  • In this role, you are primarily responsible for the games we release achieving an average review score of over 80%.
  • Provide a generous balance of creative support, freedom, and experience to our development partners— establishing yourself as a deep well of design knowledge to draw from.
  • Provide Actionable Design Feedback:
  • Help our developers use their limited time and resources efficiently and effectively to build incredible games.
  • Build genuine partnerships with developers, earn their trust and act as a sounding board for design concepts and ideas.
  • Regularly play builds and offer thoughtful, considered, in-depth feedback.
  • Clearly prioritise feedback and requests through the lens of resources and time.
  • Track potential risks and mitigations throughout development.
  • Map out the competitive landscape for each title and play each game in the genre to build an intimate understanding of where our titles sit.
  • Have a deep understanding of the target audience for each game and their needs and desires.
  • Write Design Specs & Documentation:
    • Act in a design lead or game director capacity when Mythwright is more directly involved in development.
    • Balance a complex game economy or write a feature spec as comfortably as providing high-level direction.
    • Plan, prioritise, communicate and articulate features.
    • Motivate the team, keep them informed and maintain vision alignment.
    • Build out development plans in partnership with our production team.
  • Assess Pitches & Concepts:
    • Play early demos and builds to assess creative potential.
    • Write clear, concise feedback on these builds and prototypes.
    • Assess game potential based on your perspective and knowledge of the market.
    • Become an integral part of efforts to discover, evaluate and discuss potential titles.

    About You

    We are looking for someone with years of design experience who has been through the full cycle of game development many times— serving with a potent mix of optimism and realism. You are adept at working through complex design challenges in the service of diverse audiences, game genres and stages of production. You will be working across multiple titles at the same time, often in different genres. It is a huge plus if you have deep understanding and experience with Simulation, Strategy, Tycoon / Management titles. You are a quick learner and articulate communicator, able to sort through large amounts of information then produce concise summaries and action points. You are tenacious and hands‑on, working effectively with other members of our growing team and exploring impactful ways to support cross‑discipline endeavours. Your design expertise, creative leadership and industry experience will inform the shape of our projects and the quality of our portfolio.
