We're looking for a Treasurer to give the board the financial leadership this next stage needs, as GHUK moves onto statutory funding and grows its national programmes.

What difference will you make?

The GHUK board is strong on mission, lived experience, and strategic leadership. As we move onto statutory funding and grow our national programmes, what we need most is dedicated financial leadership. As Treasurer and an Audit & Risk Committee member, you will give the board the financial rigour and resilience to grow sustainably, safeguard public money, and keep serving the people who depend on us.

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) or senior financial management experience
  • Experience of audit and risk committee work, as a member or chair
  • Strong understanding of charity finance and regulatory requirements, including SORP (FRS 102) and Charity Commission guidance on reserves (CC19)
  • Confidence working with restricted-fund and grant accounting
  • Commitment to GHUK's mission and values

Desirable

  • Prior trustee or non‑executive director experience
  • Experience of charities funded through statutory or commissioned income
  • Experience advising on reserves policy and the investment of cash reserves
  • Knowledge of the gambling harm, public health, or wider voluntary sector
  • Lived experience of gambling harm (personal or through someone close)

Remote

What will you be doing?

As Treasurer, you will be a trustee and a member of GHUK's Audit & Risk Committee, which provides independent oversight of financial controls, risk, contract delivery, reserves, and compliance. You will report back to the full board after each committee meeting.

What You'll Do

Financial leadership (board level)

  • Present clear, accessible financial reports to the board at each meeting
  • Lead on annual budget preparation and year-end accounts
  • Advise the board on the financial implications of strategic decisions and growth
  • Support the CEO on financial forecasting and sustainable income planning across statutory and grant funding

Audit & Risk Committee

  • Scrutinise financial performance, budgets, forecasts, cash flow and reserves
  • Oversee the management and investment of reserves in line with our reserves policy (low-risk, accessible, FSCS-protected products)
  • Strengthen financial controls, including taking on authorisation of payments
  • Oversee adherence to funder conditions and reporting obligations across restricted and unrestricted funds (OHID, NHS, and other grants)
  • Contribute to the risk register, covering financial, delivery, safeguarding, and reputational risk
  • Report to the full board after each committee meeting
