Position: Engine Technician

Location: Kennington, Oxford

Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm

Gama Aviation is currently recruiting for an Engine Technician to join our skilled engineering team in Kennington. This position is a dedicated piston aero engine overhaul technician who will be responsible for the overhaul and repair of piston aero engines cylinders.

To be considered for this position, you will have extensive mechanical engineering experience in either Aviation or Automotive industries. Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overhaul and repair of piston aero engines cylinders including the following activities:
  • Refurbishment of cylinders.
  • Cleaning/blasting/polishing of cylinder components.
  • Cylinder barrel honing/grinding.
  • Valve guide replacement/reaming, seat grinding/valve lapping.
  • Valve leak test.
  • General machining of cylinder head - refacing exhaust ports.
  • Carrying out dimensional inspection, use of micrometers etc.
  • Gapping piston rings.
  • Assembly of valve gear components in cylinder head.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety, with commercial awareness.
  • Work directly from approved maintenance data, which is inclusive of electronic Overhaul manuals and service bulletins.
  • Accurate completion of stage worksheets referencing correct data in line with company procedures.
  • Prioritised requisitioning of spares to meet turnaround deadlines.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Strong general mechanical engineering background, either in Aviation or Automotive discipline.
  • Good working knowledge of internal combustion engines and associated components.
  • Previous experience in piston engine restoration/refurbishment. This can be general engineering, such as Classic car engine restoration or Aviation specific areas.
  • Background experience in basic manual machining and fabrication processes.
  • Ideally has a working knowledge of CAA regulations which applies to engine & component overhaul/repair.
