The FBO Safety & Compliance Manager is a key leadership role within Gama Aviation, responsible for overseeing and managing the Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure full compliance with the IS-BAH, CAA and other applicable regulatory authorities. This role requires a proactive leader committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, regulatory adherence, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across all operations.

Based at one of our FBO locations, either Glasgow, Jersey or Sharjah, this role supports the group’s Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Safety operations across all locations, ensuring consistent safety and quality standards and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management System (SMS) Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain an SMS compliant with applicable regulatory requirements. Establish safety policies, procedures, and manuals to guide safe operations. Support the Managing Director in identifying and assessing operational hazards, conducting risk assessments, and implementing risk mitigation measures. Foster a safety-conscious culture by promoting safety awareness, reporting, and continuous improvement across all locations.
  • Compliance Monitoring and Quality Management System (QMS) Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain an effective QMS that complies with any regulatory requirements. Create and update quality policies, procedures, and manuals to ensure adherence to industry best practices. Conduct internal audits to verify compliance with established procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Incident, Investigation, and Reporting Management: Establish procedures for timely reporting, investigation, and documentation of safety and quality non-conformities. Lead or participate in investigations of safety incidents and accidents. Ensure lessons learned from incidents and investigations are communicated and incorporated into SMS and QMS.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs on safety management, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance for team members at all levels. Promote a culture of safety, quality, and regulatory awareness throughout the organization.
  • Emergency Response and Crisis Management: Establish emergency response procedures and plans to address potential crises or incidents. Coordinate with departments to conduct emergency drills and exercises to assess readiness and response effectiveness.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management: Establish quality requirements for suppliers and vendors and monitor their performance. Conduct audits and inspections of suppliers and vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to enhance safety and quality practices.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Exacting standards and strong attention to detail.
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in Safety Management, Quality Assurance, Compliance Management, or related roles within the aviation industry.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificate is advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications in Safety Management Systems, Quality Management Systems, and auditing (e.g., ISO 9001 Lead Auditor).
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Strong understanding of SMS and QMS principles, best practices, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and people skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams effectively.
