For over 30 years Galson Sciences Limited has been providing consultancy and research expertise to nuclear sector clients worldwide. We specialise in radioactive waste management, surface/near-surface and geological disposal, environmental safety cases and decommissioning end states for new build and legacy reactor sites. In April 2021 Galson Sciences Limited joined the Egis Group. With the expertise that Egis brings in the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle, the merger has expanded the range and depth of services we offer in support of radioactive waste management solutions in the UK, in France and abroad. New opportunities have come from the merger together with a need to grow our technical workforce. Job Description Galson Sciences Ltd is looking for a Principal Consultant to join our team of technical experts in a multi-faceted role including technical research, project management and business development in support of our specialist services. Providing consultancy services to clients on a national and international basis, you’ll deliver high-quality projects in nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal, environment safety cases, or site end states. Building and maintaining strong client and project team relationships is an important part of this role, as is contributing to the growth and success of the business. Key responsibilities Delivering high-quality, technical projects. This will involve producing high quality reports, working closely with the client, presenting findings to stakeholders, facilitating technical workshops / discussions, ensuring the financial and technical health of the project, and managing a small team of project staff. Providing technical support and advice to other project managers. Business development in your area of expertise and support in other areas. Project management in accordance with company standards and guidelines. Potential line management of a small number of consultants outside of project teams. Ensuring all activities in your business area are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner. Essential requirements: Nuclear industry experience, in particular in radioactive waste management, disposal, options assessments, environmental safety, decommissioning of nuclear facilities, nuclear safety and/or related fields. Qualification such as a PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry or engineering. Ability to deliver high-quality technical work and proposals with excellent attention to detail, within tight deadlines. Excellent time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills. Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, using English language. Project and contract management experience. Business development experience in your areas of expertise. Desirable skills and experience: Technical assessment experience in our specialism areas, for example Radiological risk assessment, environmental safety case development and/or criticality safety assessments. Understanding of the regulatory framework in which the nuclear industry operates. Experience of mathematical modelling, particularly with respect to site characterisation, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and/or contaminant transport in geological media (e.g. using platforms such as GoldSim or COMSOL). Coding skills (e.g. Python, C++). Developing staff and ensuring their well-being, such as through line management or mentoring.
