Help people navigate sight loss with confidence, clarity and support. At Galloways, we’ve been supporting people affected by sight loss for nearly 160 years. We’re now looking for an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) to provide vital support at the point of diagnosis and beyond. This is a role where every conversation matters. You’ll be based within the eye clinic, offering practical guidance, reassurance and connection to services that help people move forward.
Location: Royal Lancaster Infirmary (with office bases in Morecambe or Penwortham)
Hours: 22.2 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £25,971 FTE (rising to £30,107)
What this role is really about
This role is about being there when it matters most. You’ll support people at the point of diagnosis, helping them understand what’s happening, what support is available, and what comes next. You’ll provide reassurance, clear information and practical next steps.
- Supporting someone to understand their diagnosis
- Helping someone access services, benefits or equipment
- Guiding patients through certification and registration
- Connecting individuals with community and support services
Your role is to inform, reassure and connect — helping people feel more in control of their situation.
What you could be doing
- Providing information, advice and emotional support within the eye clinic
- Assessing needs and signposting or referring to appropriate services
- Supporting patients through certification and registration processes
- Working closely with clinicians and healthcare staff
- Building links with community organisations and services
- Delivering basic visual awareness training to staff
- Supporting groups, activities and learning opportunities
- Maintaining accurate records and managing a caseload
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need direct experience in sight loss, but you do need to be confident supporting people in sensitive situations. We’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Can provide clear, empathetic support and guidance
- Builds positive relationships with professionals and partners
- Is organised and able to manage their workload
- Is proactive and solution-focused
- Has good IT and administrative skills
Experience in health, social care, community or charity settings would be helpful, but not essential.
