Job Description

Gallery FUMI is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, dedicated Gallery Assistant with previous experience working in a gallery environment. The candidate will act as a key support in all areas of the business. This is a junior full time position and would suit an individual looking to develop their skills in the contemporary design scene.

The selected candidate will have had an education and experience in contemporary design/art. The ideal candidate has a keen interest in developing skills in gallery administration, marketing and logistics. Previous experience in an arts client-facing role is also preferred.

Job Requirements

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about contemporary design
  • Minimum of 1 year working in a commercial gallery environment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of software such as SketchUp or similar for creating exhibition renders
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe: InDesign and Photoshop
  • Preferred experience of working with ArtLogic or similar gallery database platform
  • Experience co-ordinating local and global shipments and handling basic artwork logistics
  • Experience welcoming visitors and providing ad hoc exhibition tours to clients
  • Good proofreading skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting registrar with internal/external shipments and changeover coordination
  • Assisting with organisation of artists samples
  • General gallery errands, administration and housekeeping tasks
  • Responsible for appearance and upkeep of gallery spaces
  • Assisting with physical set up and take down of shows
  • Front of house: welcoming clients and answering phone
  • Assisting with organisation of private views and events
  • Managing the gallery database
  • Supporting all departments of the Gallery team
  • When required, acting as PA to the directors
  • Assisting with preparing and sending invitations, catalogues and books
  • Assisting with editing photographs for press content and creating catalogues

Qualifications / Skills

  • BA or MA in an arts or design related subject
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe InDesign
  • SketchUp or similar software for creating exhibition renders
  • If English is not your first language, you must be fluent in speaking and writing in English
  • Knowledge of French preferred
