Gallaway Construction Ltd is looking to appoint an Estimator / Pre-Construction Estimator to join our growing pre-construction team. We are a Manchester-based main contractor delivering construction projects across the UK, with experience across healthcare, education, residential, supported living, leisure, commercial refurbishment, public sector frameworks and specialist design-and-build schemes. As our pipeline continues to grow, we are looking for a motivated and commercially aware Estimator who can support the business in preparing competitive, compliant and well-considered tender submissions.
The successful candidate will be involved in the full tender process from initial enquiry through to submission, including:
- Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and employer’s requirements
- Preparing bills of quantities, take-offs and pricing documents
- Issuing subcontractor and supplier enquiries
- Analysing and comparing subcontractor quotations
- Building up rates, preliminaries and tender allowances
- Identifying risks, exclusions, clarifications and value engineering opportunities
- Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and internal delivery teams
- Supporting tender settlement meetings and adjudication reviews
- Assisting with framework submissions, quality responses and tender programmes where required
- Working with estimating software, document control systems and Microsoft Office packages

We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially minded and keen to develop within pre-construction. The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in estimating, quantity surveying or pre-construction
- Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications and pricing documents
- Ability to carry out take-offs and prepare tender enquiries
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills when dealing with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience using estimating software such as ConQuest would be advantageous, but training can be provided.
Qualifications:
- Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Studies or a related construction discipline
- Alternatively, strong practical estimating or site-based construction experience will also be considered
- Working towards CIOB, RICS or similar professional membership would be welcomed but is not essential
