We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Database Administrator to join our IT Operations Infrastructure team in Ipswich, UK. This hybrid role is vital in ensuring our database systems are stable, high-performing, and scalable to support Gallagher Bassett's critical applications and systems.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in managing and optimising our database infrastructure. You’ll ensure our systems are always available, secure, and performing at their best. Your work will include installing, configuring, and maintaining databases, as well as monitoring performance and implementing improvements. You’ll also help us stay ahead by evaluating new technologies and contributing to our IT strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and improving database performance, including query optimisation and clustering.
- Supporting replication processes and ensuring data security.
- Documenting systems and processes clearly and accessibly.
- Collaborating with teams to support software updates and integrations.
- Ensuring adherence to change control processes and organisational policies.
About You
You’re an experienced Database Administrator with a strong background in SQL Server components and database engines. You’re skilled in performance tuning, query optimisation, and database monitoring. You’re comfortable working independently and taking ownership of tasks, and you’re always looking for ways to improve processes.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience in database administration, including SQL Server and SSIS.
- Knowledge of clustering, availability groups, and disaster recovery.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- A commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new technologies.
It’s a bonus if you have experience with large databases, highly transactional environments, or tools like SSRS and Power BI Report Server. Must be eligible to work in the UK.
