Gallagher Bassett is seeking an experienced and proactive Director of Data and Business Intelligence to lead our Data and BI initiatives across the UK and EMEA regions. This role is instrumental in fostering data‑driven decision‑making across the organisation, enhancing our ability to deliver bespoke insurance solutions and effective risk management strategies. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of data and BI projects, ensuring they align with our strategic goals and objectives.
We are looking for a leader with proven management experience to guide a team of 10 professionals. This role requires someone who is not only skilled in leadership but also eager to remain technically involved and hands‑on with data. As this is a client‑facing position, exceptional stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to understand analytics and insight requirements to deliver impactful data products.
How you’ll make an impact
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive data and BI strategy that aligns with Gallagher Bassett’s business objectives and enhances operational efficiency. Take ownership of the vision, deployment, and operation of data pipelines, tools, and BI platforms that underpin our data and analytics capabilities.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in designing, managing, and deploying data warehouse projects using tools such as SSIS, Azure, and Snowflake. Proficiency in developing data visualisations and reports using data warehouse solutions, leveraging tools like Power BI and SSRS.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of data analysts, ETL developers, and BI report developers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and build a high‑performing data engineering and BI team, ensuring scalability and excellence.
- Data Governance: Collaborate with the business to champion a robust data governance framework and controls. Ensure data quality, integrity, and security are maintained across the organisation.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross‑functional teams to identify data needs and deliver solutions that drive business value. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with other data and BI teams globally.
- Integration and Monitoring: Implement and manage Agile and CI/CD best practices to monitor the effectiveness of data and BI initiatives. Define and manage SLAs for all data sets and processes in production, ensuring adherence by working closely with Architecture and Operations teams.
About You
- Extensive experience with data warehouse and data visualisation tools, including Power BI, SQL, Azure, and Snowflake is required.
- Proven track record of leading Data Engineering and/or Business Intelligence teams.
- Experience in the insurance sector is essential, with Third Party Claims (TPA) administration experience being advantageous.
- Excellent leadership experience, with a focus on team development and mentorship.
- Excellent strategic thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment.
- Must be able to travel between our offices in Ipswich, Chelmsford, Tamworth and London.
