We are looking for an experienced Sybase database administrator (DBA) for a permanent position based at the client office in London.
Work Location: Client Office β London
Work Mode: Hybrid β 3 days/week from London office
Salary: Open to discuss
Notice Period: Immediate joiner or up to 1 month
Experience: Overall experience should not exceed 15 years
Note: Travel expenses to the client office will not be reimbursed.

Role: Sybase DBA
The Sybase DBA will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining SAP Sybase ASE databases and related replication infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and recoverability of business-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Sybase ASE databases 12.xβ16.x across development, test, and production environments.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations in line with change and release management processes.
- Monitor database health, capacity, and performance; identify bottlenecks and perform query/index tuning.
- Implement and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures, including warm/hot standby and replication setups.
- Configure and support Sybase Replication Server for high availability, failover, and data distribution.
- Maintain database security including user, role, privilege management, and compliance with internal controls.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, performance issues, and failed jobs within agreed SLAs.
- Provide 24x7 on-call support as required.
- Work with application and development teams on data modeling, schema design, stored procedures, and release validations.
- Automate routine DBA activities using shell scripting and SQL utilities.
- Maintain database documentation, standards, procedures, and runbooks.
Required Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience in SAP Sybase ASE administration in large, mission-critical environments.
- Typically 5β8+ years of Sybase DBA experience.
- Strong knowledge of Sybase architecture including engines, devices, segments, tempdb, locking, transaction logs, and query optimizer.
- Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and index strategy.
- Expertise in backup/recovery, disaster recovery planning, and HA/replication configurations.
- Strong Unix/Linux and/or Windows experience for database installation, storage layout, and scripting.
- Good understanding of ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Experience in financial services or low-latency, high-volume transaction environments.
- Knowledge of automation/orchestration tools and job schedulers such as Autosys or similar.
