The Safety Support Team Member plays a crucial role in ensuring Gail’s Bakery operates safely and meets all health, food safety, and fire safety regulations. This position supports bakery teams by providing guidance, conducting audits, and fostering a strong culture of safety and accountability. The Safety Support Team Member acts as a resource for team members, offering practical solutions and actionable feedback to maintain high safety standards across all locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular, detailed audits and inspections across bakery locations to evaluate compliance with food safety, health, and fire safety regulations. Prepare audit reports that highlight areas of concern and provide actionable recommendations for improvement. Follow up on action plans to ensure identified deficiencies are addressed effectively and timely. Support teams in meeting regulatory standards and internal policies, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Coaching and Training: Develop and deliver tailored training sessions for Bakery Teams on food safety, fire safety, and health & safety practices. Educate staff on safe food handling, chemical use, and emergency procedures to minimize risks. Encourage a proactive approach to safety by promoting accountability and awareness.
  • Compliance Management: Investigate incidents of non-compliance, working collaboratively with teams to resolve issues and implement corrective measures. Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, investigations, and resolutions. Stay informed on regulatory changes and ensure internal policies and procedures are updated accordingly.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Perform risk assessments to identify workplace hazards and develop actionable plans to mitigate risks. Support bakeries in implementing preventive measures to minimize accidents, injuries, and foodborne illnesses. Monitor the effectiveness of risk control measures and suggest improvements when necessary.
  • Support for New Bakery Openings: Assist in establishing safety standards and procedures during the setup phase of new bakery locations. Conduct pre-opening inspections to ensure compliance with Gail’s standards and regulatory requirements. Provide hands-on support during the transition to operations, ensuring safety protocols are well-understood and implemented.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain effective working relationships with Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and other regulatory bodies. Act as a point of contact for bakery teams during inspections, ensuring smooth communication and efficient resolution of any issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the organization’s safety culture by identifying trends, sharing best practices, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance compliance and safety.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Qualifications and Certifications: Certification in Food Safety (e.g., HACCP, Level 4 Food Safety). Additional certifications in Health & Safety (e.g., Level 4 H&S, IOSH), fire safety, or related areas are an advantage.
