Ready to put your CNC machining expertise to work on complex aerospace components? Join our team at our new state-of-the-art facility in Birmingham, programming, setting and operating newly invested CNC machinery for challenging aerospace and turbine projects. You will produce low-volume, high-complexity components—including fuel-line, engine and actuation parts—to detailed specifications, tight tolerances and agreed deadlines.
With more than 50 years of aerospace engineering experience and an AS9100-certified quality management system, we offer a hands-on role combining precision machining, new product introduction (NPI) and process improvement.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will work closely with the production shift supervisor and engineering and production teams. As the on-shift technical point of contact, you will resolve machining issues, identify engineering requirements before and during production, and help keep complex components moving through the workshop.
You will also provide technical leadership and practical training to CNC setters and operators, use CAD/CAM where required, and optimise, document and implement robust machining processes through the engineering change control system.
What you will do
- Programme, set and operate CNC machinery to produce complex precision components.
- Set up machines for NPI and implement engineering-approved CNC programme and CAM changes.
- Improve machining processes to increase efficiency and machine utilisation while maintaining high engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues using structured problem-solving, support delivery against the production plan and escalates risks promptly.
- Coach and mentor machinists, sharing best practice and building consistent technical capability.
- Support safe, efficient shift operations and continuous improvement.
What you will bring – technical knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of CNC machine capabilities, control languages, programming codes and production processes.
- Detailed understanding of cutting tools, engineering materials and quality requirements.
- Practical knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), with the ability to inspect your own work and verify tolerances and critical features.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software, including HyperMill, for programming and modelling where appropriate.
- Ability to coach colleagues in precision machining and work within process change control systems.
- Clear understanding of production plans, schedules and priorities.
Your experience
- Substantial hands‑on technical experience in engineering production, including setting workpieces and tools and editing CNC programmes.
- A track record of producing complex precision components to high standards.
- Experience in multi-axis CNC machining and working with difficult‑to-machine materials.
- NPI experience is preferred.
- Apprenticeship-trained and qualified in a mechanical engineering discipline.
How you work
