Are you a passionate and resilient individual dedicated to supporting children with additional needs? We are currently seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist school in Cheshire.

About the Role

This full-time role involves working within a supportive SEN environment, assisting pupils with a range of complex needs including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will work closely with Class Teachers and therapy teams to ensure every child has access to a tailored and inclusive education. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable young people in the Cheshire area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with diverse learning needs.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and facilitate engaging learning activities.
  • Manage challenging behaviour with patience, using de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility requirements where necessary.
  • Monitor student progress and provide detailed feedback to the Class Teacher and parents.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and positive classroom environment.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or adults with SEN (school-based or care settings).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to student engagement.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL), PECS, or Makaton is highly desirable but not essential.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Availability to work full-time (Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 15:30) during term time.
