There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ Prison Custody Officer (PCOs). No specific qualifications or relevant experience is required. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate prisoners and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. The people in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect and helped to find a new way of life whilst maintaining a safe, secure and structured environment. You will play a key role in providing prisoners with structure and routine, making sure they get to work in the morning within the Prison, are actively engaging in education or work and the prison regime and are secure in their cell in the evening.
