The Role

We are looking for a rare type of individual for a role where previous experience is not essential as we’ll support the right candidate with training. Someone who cares about security, has excellent attention to detail, appreciates that risk exists and is vigilant enough to spot it and take relevant actions quickly and professionally to deal with it. We call it Security Operative, but could just as easily call it Security Officer, Security Surveillance Operator, Security Concierge, CCTV Operator, or even Security Monitoring Specialist. It certainly isn’t your typical front desk role. It’s wide-ranging and as the first point of contact in a highly regulated, high-security environment, you’ll combine security awareness with exceptional professionalism. Your focus will be to support safe operations by monitoring our premises, controlling access, managing visitor and vehicle flows, and maintaining site integrity - all while offering a helpful, confident presence.

At G4S Cash Solutions, our work underpins the secure movement of cash and valuables across the UK. As a Security Operative you’ll play a critical role in our Secure Cash Centre in Glasgow Hub.

Key Duties:

  • Manage access for employees, Cash-In-Transit (CIT) crews, and authorised visitors
  • Operate CCTV, alarms, and entry control systems
  • Ensure proper logging of entries, incidents, and deliveries
  • Conduct perimeter checks as required
  • Maintain vigilance and respond to any breaches or alarms promptly
  • Support cash centre staff with secure operational needs as required
  • Undertake other duties that may reasonably be assigned to you by your line manager or the business

This role profile will be subject to change in accordance with departmental developments and the job holder’s expertise. Pay starts at £12.86 per hour, rising to £13.16 after 6 months, rising to £13.46 after 12 months (plus £2.35 per hour night allowance if applicable).

So what makes a successful Security Operative?

  • You will need to be confident in communicating at all levels in both written and spoken English
  • You will need to be confident following specific procedures and instructions
  • An appropriate level of numeracy is also very important
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Previous experience in monitoring and controlling security equipment would be extremely beneficial, as would experience using IT and computer systems
  • You must also be willing to undertake shift work
  • You will need to be able to work in isolation or in a team of two
  • Finally, you must be continuously focused on providing excellent service to our customers by being efficient, flexible and security conscious at all times
