G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours. We aim to support change and learning.
About the role
We are looking for a full time Electrician to undertake planned and reactive electrical maintenance to assets and services in order to maintain a safe and decent environment across the Centre. You will work within the FM team to meet operational and business Facility Management requirements. Some of the key responsibilities are:
- Operate within planned maintenance procedures for assets, effectively and safely
- Deal effectively and safely with breakdowns and damage to assets
- Write up maintenance reports and technical procedures for Building Maintenance Activities
- Assist in the training and development of other maintenance/technical staff involved in site maintenance activities
- Carry out maintenance inspection and reactive repairs to various types of heating, water, ventilation, electrical, mechanical and security equipment and services on site
- Diagnosing faults on all Mechanical and Electrical support systems and rectifying where necessary
- Following detailed drawings and operational maintenance manuals in order to carry out all planned maintenance, routine inspections and reactive repairs
- Assisting in development of maintenance routines, procedures, risk assessments, preparing and maintaining relevant technical records
- Working with other craft qualified, semi-skilled and non-skilled maintenance staff to develop cross-skilling and cover all levels and aspects of maintenance activities on a team work basis
- Participate in emergency call out arrangements and provide cover where necessary during sickness absence periods
- Carry out maintenance activities to assist in project and improvement development works, offering alternatives to improve the effectiveness of the operation of the site, review current legislation / regulations within the range of qualifications, levels of competence, training and experience
About you
The ideal candidate will have proven experience as an Electrician and be fully qualified within an electrical engineering discipline (Level 3 NVQ or equivalent) is required. It is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios. You will possess strong organisational and communication skills and have experience of working within a fast paced environment.

Call out allowance: £100.00 standby, £85.00 call out and £20.00 per hour for any hours worked over 4 hours
