About the Role
We are looking for a full‑time qualified plumber with mechanical experience in relation to pumps, air handling units and boost sets to join our Facilities Management team. The role involves planned and reactive maintenance of assets and services to maintain a safe and decent environment across the prison.
Responsibilities
- Operate within planned maintenance procedures for assets effectively and safely within their range of qualifications, levels of competence, training and experience.
- Deal effectively and safely with breakdowns and damage to assets within their range of qualifications, levels of competence, training and experience, including out of hours response where necessary.
- Carry out maintenance inspection and repairs to various types of heating, water, ventilation, electrical, mechanical and security equipment and services on site.
- Assist in diagnosing faults on all mechanical and electrical support systems and rectify where necessary.
- Carry out maintenance inspection and repairs to building fabric throughout the prison estate, including furniture, internal/external fixtures and fittings, grounds, access and car parking.
- Work with other craft qualified, semi‑skilled and non‑skilled maintenance staff to develop cross‑skilling and cover all levels and aspects of maintenance activities on a team‑work basis.
- Participate in emergency call‑out arrangements and provide cover where necessary during sickness absence periods.
- Carry out maintenance activities to assist in project and improvement development works, offering alternatives to improve the effectiveness of the operation of the site and review current legislation/regulations within their range of qualifications, levels of competence, training and experience.
About You
You must have experience of building and facilities maintenance with good basic maintenance skills and mechanical experience in relation to pumps, air handling units and boost sets. It is key that you are flexible and adaptable to ever‑changing scenarios, possess strong organisational and communication skills, and have experience working within a fast‑paced environment.

Requirements
- You must be a qualified plumber with mechanical experience in pumps, air handling units and boost sets.
- You must be eligible to work in the UK and have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 3 years.
- You must have the right to work in the UK and be able to provide full details of your employment and education history for the past five years.
- You must hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate.
