Costs Lawyer – Leeds/Remote
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Costs Lawyer, Solicitor or equivalent legal professional to join a leading, international law firm.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical costs experience to manage a varied and complex caseload while working within an established and supportive specialist team.
The role offers hybrid working and high levels of flexibility with only 1 day a month in the office required.
As a Senior Costs Lawyer/Costs Lawyer, you will manage your own caseload of predominantly Defendant costs matters, ensuring files are progressed efficiently and to a high standard in line with client service level agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of Defendant and/or Claimant costs matters
- Handle all aspects of costs case management from instruction through to conclusion
- Draft Points of Dispute and Replies
- Prepare Bills of Costs and Schedules of Costs
- Negotiate costs offers and settlements
- Advise on all aspects of third-party costs claims
- Prepare costs budgets and Budget Discussion Reports
- Handle high-value and complex costs matters
- Attend interim applications, Costs and Case Management Hearings and Detailed Assessment Hearings where required
- Ensure management information is accurate and maintained in line with client SLAs
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior members of the team where appropriate
You will be a qualified Costs Lawyer, Solicitor or equivalent, with strong experience managing a costs caseload.
You will ideally have experience handling costs matters within the insurance sector and a detailed understanding of the current costs landscape.
Essential Experience
- Qualified Costs Lawyer, Solicitor or equivalent
- Experience handling Defendant and/or Claimant costs files
- Strong experience within insurance-related costs, including areas such as:
- Road Traffic Accidents
- Employers' and Public Liability
- Industrial Disease
- Clinical and Medical Negligence
- Detailed working knowledge of the Fixed Recoverable Costs regime
- Experience preparing costs budgets and Budget Discussion Reports
- Advocacy experience, including attending interim applications, Costs and Case Management Hearings and Detailed Assessment Hearings
- Experience negotiating high-value and complex costs matters
- Strong drafting experience, including Bills of Costs, Points of Dispute, Replies and Schedules of Costs
