I’m currently working with a multi-office legal practice with an established criminal defence offering across several locations in the Midlands. The firm provides representation for clients through the full criminal justice process, including police station attendance and court work, and is looking to strengthen capacity within its Leicester-based criminal team.
Team Structure
The Partner-led criminal department operates across multiple offices within the East Midlands with Duty Solicitors working on several police station rotas and is seeking to expand the Leicester team, headed by an experienced Duty Solicitor.
About the role
This is a Criminal Duty Solicitor opportunity based in Leicester, focused on supporting and strengthening the local duty rota capability. The role will involve handling criminal defence matters with an emphasis on police station attendance and rota-based work across local police stations, alongside associated case progression. The firm is seeking someone who currently works on the Leicester rota and knows the local police station and Courts and can pick up an existing caseload of general criminal defence matters, as well as supporting a more junior member of the team.
Responsibilities
- Provide criminal defence representation as part of the Leicester-based team
- Undertake duty solicitor work as part of the local duty rota
- Attend police stations for call-outs and advise clients under caution
- Manage and progress criminal matters arising from police station instructions through to conclusion
- Support continuity of service and help stabilise coverage following recent team departures
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider multi-office crime department
