A leading Disputes team is seeking an Associate/Senior Associate (6 years'+) to join its specialist Shipping & Transport practice, based in Edinburgh. This is a standout opportunity to build a reputation in a niche, internationally facing sector, working on complex and high value matters across the marine, energy and transport industries. The role offers real variety, combining contentious work with opportunities to develop advisory and transactional experience.

The Role

  • You’ll work with a broad, global client base including insurers, P&I Clubs, ports, vessel operators and offshore energy companies.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Handling commercial and insurance disputes across the shipping and transport sector
    • Managing personal injury defence and claims involving operators, owners and ports
    • Advising on incidents, investigations and regulatory matters
    • Supporting marine, health & safety and wider advisory work
    • Gaining exposure to transactional matters such as ship sale & purchase and chartering
    • Advocacy in the Sheriff Court and involvement in more complex proceedings
  • This role may also involve attending client sites following incidents and supporting regulatory investigations.

About You

  • Have 6+ years’ PQE in disputes (sector experience helpful, not essential)
  • Are commercially aware, pragmatic and solutions-focused
  • Communicate clearly and build strong client relationships
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, responsive environment
  • Are interested in developing specialist expertise in shipping and transport
  • Scottish qualification is preferred, but England & Wales qualified candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
