Rate: DOE

Contract: 5/6 months

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist customers with making a claim, explaining the regulations and the award of any benefit.
  • Provide advice to customers on potential entitlement to other benefits and discretionary awards in order for customer to maximise their income.
  • To assess promptly and accurately claims for housing and council tax support working within the requirements set by Council and regulations.
  • To deal promptly with changes to customer circumstances to ensure correct benefit levels are maintained and overpayments are kept to a minimum.
  • Ensure that decisions and procedures are in accordance with statutory legislation, case law and Council policy, maintaining and prioritising workload.
  • Maintain a high level of understanding of regulations and local policies in order to answer queries and explain the benefits and support schemes to a wide variety of customers.
  • To liaise with other sections i.e. housing needs, council tax and other agencies (DWP, Pension Service and other external organisations)
  • To be aware of the council’s policy on risk management and to escalate any new, emerging or potential risks to the post holder’s line manager.
