From our London HQ, we unite world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution - because the best ideas take time to evolve. Together we're building a world-class platform to amplify our teams' most powerful ideas.
As part of our engineering team, you'll shape the platforms and tools that drive high-impact research - designing systems that scale, accelerate discovery and support innovation across the firm.
The role
At G-Research, high-performance data storage is at the core of everything we do — powering research, modelling and trading at scale. We're looking for an experienced Storage Engineering Manager to lead the design, evolution and optimisation of our storage platforms. You'll define the strategic roadmap, drive technical delivery and ensure our systems meet the performance and reliability demands of world-class quantitative research. This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing technical depth with stakeholder influence. You'll guide a talented engineering team, work closely with Research and Technology and shape the future of our storage estate — from performance tuning and capacity management to automation and next-generation architectures.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Leading the strategy, design and delivery of high-performance storage platforms
- Partnering with researchers and engineers to align storage capabilities with evolving compute workloads
- Driving continuous optimisation, reliability and performance improvements across distributed systems
- Managing and mentoring engineers, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture
- Engaging vendors to influence product roadmaps and ensure best-in-class deployment and support
- Collaborating with Architecture and Innovation teams to assess and adopt emerging technologies
- Overseeing capacity planning, budgeting and lifecycle management of storage platforms
- Championing automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and DevOps-led operational excellence
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Deep technical expertise in high-performance storage systems, such as VAST, Isilon or equivalents
- Proven leadership in large-scale, distributed environments
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience building automation and tooling to improve user experience and platform efficiency
- Familiarity with CI/CD, configuration management and SRE principles
- A clear understanding of ML workloads and storage access patterns
- Experience with cloud storage, with AWS preferred
- Commitment to building secure, resilient, high-integrity systems
Why should you apply?
- Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
- Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar
- 30 days' annual leave
- 9% company pension contributions
- Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
