Security is foundational to this mission and must be delivered in a way that supports how our engineering teams build and operate complex systems at scale.

Take the next step in your career.

The Role

  • 12th July 2027 – 14th July 2028
  • Based in Central London

As a Security Operations intern, you’ll gain first‑hand experience investigating security alerts and incidents. You’ll support senior team members across threat intelligence, detection engineering, forensics and malware analysis.

Working alongside experienced security engineers, you’ll also be paired with a mentor to support your learning and development throughout the internship.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for cyber security matters within the business
  • Investigating security alerts across a range of systems and platforms, including Windows, Linux, Kubernetes and cloud environments
  • Leading the triage and coordination of security incidents raised across the organisation
  • Conducting threat hunting across a large, centralised data lake
  • Using threat intelligence sources to enhance and tune existing detection capabilities
  • Working with our internally developed interface backed by SIEM tools from Azure, Elastic and AWS

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a motivated and capable student currently enrolled in a Cyber Security degree programme with a placement year, graduating in 2029.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • A strong interest in cyber security and a solid technical foundation
  • A proactive, methodical approach to problem solving
  • Good communication skills and the ability to support internal users with professionalism and clarity
  • Strong organisational skills and a desire to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment
  • A predicted grade of 2:1 or above

This role is ideally suited to individuals who want hands‑on exposure to enterprise cyber security operations and the chance to work closely with experienced professionals on real‑world issues.

  • Candidates selected after CV review will be invited to complete a technical assessment
  • If you pass, you'll be invited to interview at our Central London office
  • Please note: we can only consider applicants enrolled on a sandwich degree programme with an expected graduation in 2029
  • Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
  • Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business ) and dedicated barista bar
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • 9% company pension contributions
  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
  • Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance

What our people say

"Sitting alongside experienced engineers means I can ask questions, discuss ideas and learn from how they approach their work."

Olivia Cyber Security First Response Intern

"I had the autonomy to lead mini-projects, contribute to ongoing investigations and shape the outcome of technical workstreams."

"It’s nice to work on something useful, rather than just an intern project. I’ve had feedback from people saying they’ll use the app regularly, which is great to hear."

"The dashboards I’ve created are already being used and having a tangible impact, which I’ve found really rewarding."

"G-Research gave me a unique experience where I'm surrounded by both very talented and very approachable people and where my contributions are impactful."

"We had a lot of freedom to explore different aspects of the project and really make it our own, which I really enjoyed."

David Director of Open Source Development

"Knowing that we make a difference to the bottom line of our business while also doing good for others in a collaborative way brings an extra layer of satisfaction to my day."

"I'm exposed to many different technologies and I get to learn the basics and then develop my skills with that technology further."

"I was surprised by how much access I had to G-Research’s compute. I was able to run a significant number of jobs on the compute farm, similar to a full-time researcher, which gave me the freedom to explore different ideas through experimentation."

"What’s stood out is how much ownership I’ve had without ever feeling like I was on my own. I’ve been treated as part of the team, with people always happy to answer questions, discuss ideas or help when I need it."
