About the Role

Our client, a large London-based housing association, is seeking an experienced External Affairs Manager to lead its public affairs and stakeholder engagement activity. You will sit within a collaborative Corporate Affairs function and play an important role in shaping how the organisation is viewed externally – championing its social purpose, supporting its transformation journey, and helping it respond confidently to political and reputational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a targeted public affairs and stakeholder engagement plan
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with MPs, councillors, civil servants and sector bodies
  • Provide clear, insightful briefings and advice to senior leadership ahead of meetings and key decisions
  • Track political and policy developments, identifying potential risks and opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of policy positions aligned to organisational priorities
  • Support the handling of enquiries and casework from elected representatives
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure consistent and professional stakeholder engagement
  • Play a role in media handling and incident response where required

Experience & Requirements

  • Proven experience in public affairs, political engagement or government relations (in-house, agency, civil service or parliamentary background)
  • Strong understanding of the UK political and policy landscape
  • Experience preparing briefings and supporting senior stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to translate external developments into practical business insight
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
