We’re supporting a leading multi-site educational organisation in their search for an experienced Environmental and Sustainability Manager to join their central operations team. If you’re a passionate sustainability professional with expertise in environmental management systems, net zero strategies, and multi-site implementation, this role offers the chance to drive meaningful climate action and operational excellence across a large estate.

Role Overview

  • Lead the development, delivery, and monitoring of the organisation’s sustainability strategy across multiple sites, with high-quality reporting to senior leadership.
  • Champion environmental considerations in property and estate decisions, including new developments and ongoing operations.
  • Embed behaviour change initiatives to improve biodiversity, achieve net zero targets, and reduce carbon/heat emissions in academies and sites.
  • Drive waste reduction across utilities, paper, landfill, and resources through targeted projects and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with UK environmental legislation, ISO14001, and sustainability reporting, while engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Manage sustainability projects, analyse resource data, and deliver measurable outcomes aligned with DfE strategies and school climate commitments.

Requirements

  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field, plus Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), IEMA Practitioner (ISEP), or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate.
  • Substantial experience in environmental management, sustainability, estates, or related fields, ideally in education, public sector, or multi-site organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability legislation, policy, ISO14001, and best practices in the education sector (including DfE environmental strategies).
  • Proven track record leading environmental/sustainability projects or strategies, with measurable outcomes like emissions reductions or waste minimisation.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills to drive change across diverse teams and sites.
  • Analytical skills for data-driven reporting, resource monitoring, and decision-making, with ability to manage competing priorities.
